Soupape is an app that helps people find the closest place they can find a bowl of soup. The problem I’m trying to solve is one that I’ve had many times when I’m cold in the winter and want to find somewhere that has a warm dish. Most often I have to search for “soup” on Google Maps but that doesn’t include all the different ethnic dishes such as Ramen, Pho and many more. This app accumulates that information into a one stop and makes it easy for people who are cold to find a warm dish of soup.

Functionalities include:

1. You can look at a map and find any restaurants that serve a warm bowl of soup. 2. You can pick a certain type of soup (let’s say Ramen) and you can find out if there are any Ramen places that are close to you.
3. You can upvote (and even add) your favorite dish in the app, so that more restau- rants would think about including it in their menu.
4. You can also rate the soup dish you had at a restaurant.

Designer goals include:

1. Help local, ethnic restaurants
2. Create a good, warm experience for users
3. Educate more people on ethnic dishes
4. Help soup lovers find each other and restaurants

And here are three exisiting competitors:

Yelp: I tried searching for “soup” on the Yelp app and it brings all the restaurants that have some sort of soup in their menus. However you have to go dig in their menu to find which one is that warm bowl you are looking for. My app would show you just the warm bowls and make the experience easier.

Google Maps: The map idea of my app is similar to Google Maps however it is just those dishes that the app identifies as “soups”. Therefore when you search on the map you see an icon of that specific dish and you know which restaurant offers which dish.

Wireframes

For designing wireframes, I looked at two main scenarios. the first one is “User wants soup type 1”. In this scenario the user already has made up their mind and are only coming to the application to see where they can find a specific type of soup:

The second scenario for which I drew wireframes was when the user comes to the application looking for a place to get some soup. In this scenario the type of soup is not important and the main goal is to find a way to get to a warm bowl of soup as fast as possible:
